UPDATED - SMALLER FILE SIZE
I found the Notion Ink keyboard ported from
gojimi on XDA-Developers.
I love the keyboard on my WSL XVision (in Europe aka Advent Vega). But the colors are awful. Grey on white, that is not very practical. So I made a small graphic mod to the keyboard. I tested it only on my WSL XVision, no guaranty if it breaks your device or destroy your SD card data. For me it works fine.

APN settings for Softbank Japan
» 307.8 KiB - 1,270 hits - 2011年02月03日
This file includes 3 APN settings for Softbank Japan.
APN 1 = Softbank (Desire) is for the unlimited internet flatrate that came with my HTC Desire
APN 2 = Softbank(open) are for the standard plans
APN 3 = Softbank(smile.world) is for the unlimited plan that you get when you buy an iPhone (with black SIM) from Softbank
I got these settings from the Internet. If you choose the wrong APN or Softbank changed something and you get a 70.000 Yen invoice, don't blame me, you change this on your own risk.

This is an MMS replacement that is able to handle the Softbank S!Mail. You cannot install this. It needs to be in a ROM. See my How to mod a ROM post how to do this.

Does this mod work for HTC Desire HD as well?
Hi it depends about which mod you talk.
The “Japanese keyboard and Softbank MMS” should work on the Desire HD as well. The Oxygen mods are for HTC Desire Oxygen ROM only. As they change framework.apk. They will not work on other ROMs.
I really appreciate if you can help me restore the APN setting for my HTC Desire HD which i would assume would not be that different from HTC Desire
Get the settings from my download page (Softbank APN) and use “APN Backup & Restore” to restore them to your device.
About the APNs:
APN 1 = Softbank (Desire) is the one I use for my business SIM card, I do not know the name of the plan, but this is a unlimited internet flatrate that my company gets from Softbank
APN 2 = Softbank(open) are exactly the settings you used before with the username opensoftbank.
APN 3 = Softbank(smile.world) is for the unlimited plan that you get when you buy an iPhone (with black SIM) from Softbank. That is the one I am using at the moment (the iPhone went to my son in Germany)
Use “APN Backup & Restore” to make a backup of your current settings first.
I got these settings from the Internet. If you choose the wrong APN or Softbank changed something and you get a 70.000 Yen invoice, don’t blame me, you change this on your own risk.
Thanks a lot .. i am in the same situation using iphone sim on htc desire hd
you’re welcome

Hi, I have an HTC Desire HD and I really want to get mms working on my phone.
I have done so much reading and I feel more lost than ever.
Would you please help me or provide me with a guide with what I should do and the best files to use?
I found your Japanese keyboard and softbank mms file. Should I just flash that zip from the recovery and it will work?
I’m using the Revolution HD rom now on my UK Desire HD.
Please help, you seem the like person the most in the know about HTC in Japan I have found so far.
Yes, if you flash the Japanese keyboard and Softbank MMS through the recovery you should be fine.
What type of SIM card are you using? Be careful with APN settings, using the wrong APN can result either in no working MMS and internet or in high costs. Check the APN settings for Softbank file.
Hi, thanks so much for the reply.
I was using a Softbank Sharp 933SH phone. The sim card in that phone was all silver. It did not have the small stripe near the bottom edge that says smartphone on it. Is it ok to use that in my new Desire HD and will I be ok using the open.softbank APN settings?
Also I have no idea how to read or use your APN settings in the file you have posted on your page.
When I click to see the file it just gives me a bunch of crazy text. Do I need to download the file and then rename it to something?
How can I see or use the info in your Softbank APN file that you posted?
Thanks for the help. I really really appreciate it.
With this sim card you should use the open.softbank APN settings. If they are not already visible on the phone, you can use APN Backup and Restore from the market to install the file from my download page.
1) Install APN Backup and Restore on your phone
2) Create a folder ApnBackupRestore on your SD card
3) Copy the downloaded XML file into this folder
4) Start APN Backup and Restore on your phone. IMPORTANT: First thing to do is to backup your current APN settings, just in case something goes wrong.
5) Use the restore function of APN B&R and select the file that you copied to your SD card.
6) Goto Menu=>Settings=>Wireless&Networks=>Mobile networks=>Access Point Names. Select Softbank open as the APN that should be used.
Be aware that there might be high cost for internet use if you have no White plan or something similar with Softbank. MMS is ok, only browsing and reading normal email or Gmail might get expensive.
Hi thanks for the help.
I will follow your steps.
I am on the basic white plan now. But I will change my service plan to use the Unlimited Packet Max for smartphone. Its a flat 5,980 for unlimited internet and mail.
I think with that I should be fine. Then if I use my phone to browse the net or check gmail or use applications that connect I won’t have to worry. ^_^
Thanks again, I’ll jump on when I can and download that APN backup and restore app.
If I have any questions I’ll hit you back up. Thanks a million again. ^_^
Oh I did have one question about another tip you had on your page.
You said that if you open a custom rom zip file and add in the softbank mms.apk into the system/apps folder that it would be installed at the same time as the rom.
Is it just as simple as dropping the mms.apk into the zip and thats it? Because I was about to flash the new Revolution HD rom version 2.0.15 and I thought I might as well drop the mms file in there.
I did some reading about this file called jakesmod experimental 4 and jakesmod 5. How are they different from the mms.apk file on your site?
And would installation of jakesmod be the same as just renaming to mms.apk and dropping it into the zip as said earlier?
Also what is the recommended file to use? Should I use the one on your page or jakesmod or what? I’m a little confused about that.
Again, thanks.
To add the mms.apk you drop into the zip into system\app folder. Check if your ROM is odexed, then you need to delete Mms.odex from your ROM.
If you are using clockwork as your recovery, you can flash it directly. If you are using AmOnRa, you need to switch off signature check (menu “others” in the recovery) or sign the ROM. To sign the ROM there is a batch file somewhere on xda-developers. Search for Autosign.bat and the author Stericson.
Hi tried to flash the softbank keyboard and mms .zip file using rom manager 3.0.0.6 but it told me some error about gingerbread. So I think that you have to use clockworkmod version 2.5.1.8. Now I have to figure out how to downgrade my clockworkmod back to the earlier version.
About your tip on the mms ROM insertion. How do I check if my ROM s odexed or not? If it’s not odexed what do I do? Is odexing just deleting the mms.odex file?
Sorry for being a little dense.
Thanks again for all your help.
Yes, there is a problem with the newer clockworkmod recovery as it does no longer support update-script only the newer updater-script version. I have to change the zip file.
I am not 100% sure about the odexing/deodexing thing. What I know is that in a ROM that is de-odexed you find only .apk files. in an odexed ROM you find for each program a .apk and a .odex file.
Still you can run deodexed files in an odexed ROM. If you replace Mms.apk in an odexed ROM just make sure to delete Mms.apk and Mms.odex before putting the new Mms.apk in.
Oh wait, I found info written on the ROM download page and it says fully-odexed. So I guess all I need to do then is drop the mms file and delete the mms.odex file right?
Again about the jakesmod mms files. Is there any difference to those mms mods and the mms file on your page? Really wondering which is the best choice.
Super thanks. ^_^
About odexed ROM, see my other reply.
About the jakesmod mms files, I know about them, but I never tried them. My MMS.apk is taken from the Japan Softbank X06HT, which is the branded version of the HTC Desire. I cannot tell you the differences, sorry.
Anyway, with doing nandroid backups you can try both and then decide which one to keep.
Hey,
i installed the “Oxygen 2.0 RC6 modded by BeeGee” onto a factory wiped HTC Desire. (Actually a rooted HTC Desire on a Softbank contract).
Initially everything seemed ok, and being able to use the MMS again was fantastic! I went to the market to reinstall a couple of apps i wanted right away,
before i do the rest later via wifi. I was able to install one app (Tweetdeck) before the market force closed. Since then, it won’t open at all. Every time
i open market it FCs. Any ideas?
You say “factory wiped” HTC Desire. Did you just do the “factory reset” from the settings menu or did you do a real wipe in recovery mode?
I saw some posts with similar problems on XDA and in most cases a wipe of the cache and dalvik-cache solved the problem.
When I have to do a full wipe I do it always from recovery mode including dalvik-cache wipe.
I did it in the recovery menu.
Just did it again to be sure. I cleared cache, dalvik cache, factory reset all from recovery menu. Upon startup, went through initial setup
and then opened market. It allowed me to select and install one app, then force closed. Now it won’t open, and keeps force closing…
Do you know any way around this, or would it be possible to easily set up all the softbank mail/mms stuff the same as on this rom if
i install another rom?
Really strange, never had this problem before.
But there is an easy way to test another ROM and still have Japanese keyboard and Softbank MMS.
You can flash “Japanese keyboard and Softbank MMS” through recovery on any 2.2 and 2.3 ROM. You can find the ZIP here in the “mods” section.
You might need the Softbank APN settings as well. You can find them as well in the “mods” section => “APN settings for Softbank Japan”. Install them with “APN Backup & Restore” from the market.
I’ll give it a try. I the unlimited packets with Softbank, so i always get a bill that says i’ve used 700,000 yen of data and then i get billed about 6000.
OK, i’ve added the APNs using that tool as advised, now it has a list of 4:
Softbank Internet
Softbank(Desire)
Softbank(open)
Softbank(smile.world)…
which is the correct one?
APN 1 = Softbank (Desire) is the one I use for my business SIM card, I do not know the name of the plan, but this is a unlimited internet flatrate that my company gets from Softbank
APN 2 = Softbank(open) is the standard with the username opensoftbank. I think this one does not work with the unlimited packets.
APN 3 = Softbank(smile.world) is for the unlimited plan that you get when you buy an iPhone (with black SIM) from Softbank.
The APN “Softbank Internet” is the same as Softbank(open) if I remember correct.
OK, well the Desire one is the one i went with in the end anyway!
Thank you so much for your help! I’m running Ginger Villain 1.4 in the end, market, mms, everything all seems to be working fine…fingers crossed i don’t get a million yen phone bill now!
Thank you.
Yours is the most stable rom for the advent vega.
Excellent job!!
Thank you Bob.

Hi, I have a HTC Magic 32B with CyanogenMod 6.1.
Would this work for my Mobile…it’s impossible to get/send SMail from softbank.
Thanks!
Yes, the Softbank MMS should work on your phone.
Thanks beegee1962, but couldn’t find the way to make it work.

Thanks for your great information. I downloaded the “Japanese keyboard and Softbank MMS” zip to install on my rooted 2.3.6 Samsung Galaxy Note but I am getting the following output and errors from CWM:
– Installing: /Softbank-IME-MMS.zip
Finding update package …
Opening update package …
Installing update …
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported
Amend scripting was depreciated by Google in Android 1.5
It is necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Installation aborted.
Any ideas? This seems to be last piece of my data puzzle. I have a black Softbank micro sim from my old iPhone 4 and I have the data running great with the smile.mms settings I found on the web. The last issue of MMS I am having a heck of a time trying to fix.
Unfortunately the script language for updates has changed from “amend” to “edify” in the ClockWorkMod recovery. I need to change the update script in my ZIP file, so that it can be used with the newer CWM versions.
Will try to update it in the next days.

hello Sir, i really love your rom, but i need one request here.
can you put together with any file explore appk for your future release?
Thanks for your feedback. But there are so many free file explorers available. Which one should I choose? Whatever I choose some people will not like it. I want to avoid endless discussions about which explorer should be in the ROM.
A file explorer is downloaded from the market within a minute. Please choose your favorite file explorer and download it.
unfortunally your link to Oxygen 2.3.1 modded by BeeGee is dead.. i was really looking forward to it, since i want to configure my desire in japanesse for my wife.. we can only found french version here and she would have loved an english one for xmas
Hi, sorry, I have to check why the link is down. At the moment I am in holidays and have no chance to get the link working. Please stay patient for a few days.
